Who wins the feeder fight, the bigger gray squirrel or much smaller red squirrel? Grey squirrels carry a disease called squirrel parapox virus, which does not appear to affect their health but often kills red squirrels. Red squirrel became virtually extinct in great britain before greys were introduced (because of habitat loss), so it follows logically that, even if every grey squirrel was killed (and very few people would support cruelty on such a scale), the reds would not thrive now any more than they did then.

Read it but belive it.

Red squirrels (sciurus vulgaris) are native to britain and ireland, but they are under serious threat of extinction in these countries because of habitat loss while the greys are immune to the disease, squirrel pox outbreaks can kill up to 80 percent of a red squirrel population in an affected area. Then the grey squirrels came along from america and killed them into near extinction. Not only do grey squirrels displace red squirrels, they strip bark from trees. Grey squirrels, on the other hand, seemed to ignore the scent and carry on regardless.
